Hello friends, readers and strangers. As you may have noticed, I took a 10 month break from Wear Are We. Much has changed since the last post. Firstly, I graduated college! It wasn’t an easy journey, in fact, aside from the academic side, it was a pretty wild rollercoaster of a chapter in my life and I’m glad to say I grew immensely as a person during the last four years.
Two weeks after graduating, me and my best friend embarked on a two week trip to Japan! It was a truly life changing trip. Although I was fortunate to visit Japan back in 2014 with my family, I was a child then. This trip proved many things to me about myself. Me and my friend planned this trip entirely on our own. What started as an idea at the beginning of 2023 became a reality which felt so surreal the closer we got to it. I’ll spare you the details however I will be posting some pictures I was able to take before I broke my camera during the first week of the trip. As you may have guessed, the primary mission of this trip was jawn acquisition. So yes, there was originally a full pick-ups report drafted and planned for June of last year. It included web-links along with google maps links for all 27 items I picked up on the trip. Needless to say it was going to be a monster of a piece to write so I eventually gave up on the idea. I kind of regret that decision since I was ecstatic to share the wild journey of shopping and treasure hunting with you all; so if anyone would be interested in that post, I wouldn’t mind providing a summarized version in the future. In the meantime for anyone reading this, I consider you a friend and would be happy to share my comprehensive Japan shopping/ travel guide here. I am quite proud of it and would love for it to aid someone else one day.

Secondly, I got a job! Well, technically an internship. Yes, thanks to some menial networking I am currently a lowly intern being paid way too little to do way too much. However, after an indefinite extension, and some great experiences, I’m learning a lot. With this also comes an explanation for why I have been absent these last 10 months. My internship was originally fully remote, meaning I was working from my computer for 8 hours a day. I’m sure you can imagine that at the end of my work day the last thing I wanted to do was stare at my own computer and work on my passion project till bedtime. And that’s what this is- a passion project. I have felt a mix of emotions since stepping back from Wear Are We these past 10 months: melancholy, guilt, anxiety and grief. However I knew Wear Are We wasn’t over. It couldn’t be. It was started as an ongoing creative outlet to be molded and expanded overtime and it will continue to be so whether I take short or prolonged breaks in the future. My guilt however was most real when I thought about how much had changed in my life and my personal style. My obsession with fashion has kept growing and evolving and I’ve had few ways to express it. Nevertheless here we are, back from the… Dormant? I guess. But you best believe we’re so back.
Last but not least, I found love! Yes, this is a totally unrelated topic but indulge me for a moment. True love is not something that comes by easily so I feel the need to share the love and gush a little. This blog is and always will be fashion-centric but I do want to use this platform to share bits of positivity whenever possible. So, to whoever is reading this, at any point in time- I want to tell you that you deserve love and you deserve to be loved. Regardless of how that looks for you personally. You are capable and deserving of finding your person. And no matter what, you should never give up on that search. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from my favorite movie of all time- her (2013).
“Falling in love is kind of like a form of socially acceptable insanity.”
―Spike Jonze
Well friends, there’s why I have been AWOL for the past 10 months. Unless you follow me on Instagram, then you know I just can’t stay away. There is a lot planned for Wear Are We this year. Despite my absence, my WAW notes never stopped expanding whenever I get bursts of inspiration. I am very excited to begin incorporating some shorter form content as well as the same deep dives you know and love. I’m planning on exploring more abstract topics like brand case studies, personal style breakdowns, trend reports, shopping guides and of course: pickups. I have gotten more refined in my personal style this past year, however I still find myself gravitating to multiple things at one time. So, like many things in life, Wear Are We will continue on, it might start and stop depending on where life takes me. But life is a marathon, not a sprint. And this is purely for our mutual enjoyment. So if you are still reading this, I am so glad you’re here and coming along for the ride.
